Another came out, a fiery-colored horse, and it was granted to the one seated on it to take peace away from the earth so that they should slaughter one another, and he was given a great sword.revelations 6:4
A World at War Since 1914-
For many years I did not believe, or I did not understand, what the date 1914 portended. Having been brought up in a world in which war was almost a given, the year 1914 made no impact on me. As my grandmother might say, “It makes no never mind to me and it shouldn’t to you.” A prime use of Oklahoma slang. One day a person I met asked, concerning Scripture, have you ever considered what 1914 was? I came back with the fact that it was never mentioned in any Bible I had read. He responded with a fact I already knew but, in this instant, had never even considered.
He then asked me, What do we call that war? I responded World War One. He was silent for a moment, letting what I had just said sink in for a moment. World War. World War. World and War, I thought as it hit me like a ton of enlightenment. Indeed, it was the first time the entirety of the world had gone to war and the year had been 1914.
What has happened since that time? The horseman has been loosed. Not in the future but in the past. For over one hundred years Revelations prophecy has been unfolding right before our eyes and within earshot of us. As Jesus said in Matthew, There will be wars and rumors of war . . . And then the end will come.
Still, hope awaits us if we but turn to Him who has our best interests in mind if we but heed Him. Not always easy, granted, but vital, absolutely.
