I’ve not heard this said in many years in relation to the human spirit and, more, toward the Christian spirit. I speak of the following quote:
“For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but one of power and of love and of soundness of mind.”2 Timothy 1:7
This speaks of Christians standing by their faith in God and Jesus and, therefore, in the word of God, the Bible. Standing by their faith unto the threat of death for their beliefs. For we know that our belief surpasses the truth of men and is squarely from the mind of God. We each hope that we will not have to face death because of our beliefs but the world is changing isn’t it?
This quote tells us that God is with us to take us through should our beliefs lead to a sentence of death. All we have and all we are comes from God. We are no accident of some explosive chaos in the beginnings of the universe. We are planned and, best, we are known to Him. We are children of God and in this there is no room for science or doubt or wild flights of fantasy.
God’s spirit is what made all we know and the courage to stand and die for our beliefs is tantamount to our understanding of the love God shows to us. In this faith is the power bestowed upon us by Him and He is there with us at the end and during our lives if we but believe in Him.
