Truth

One of the most difficult facts a person can ever resolve is the truth. Most of us consider ourselves to be truth tellers but not always is this the case. Instead of being blunt we couch what we consider to be the truth in a sling of comfort or good will towards others. It starts innocently enough but grows as we pad that couch with a fluffy representation of what the stark truth actually is. Not all of us do this all the time but we know that we hold back at times. “The truth hurts,” is a phrase that is, of itself, truth, at times.

If you read the bible many of us, including myself, recoil at some things the bible tells us. Truth can be uncomfortable and cause revolt of the mind if we are in the midst of not following God’s truth. This is called, “conscience.” Right and wrong are not for humans to decide but, instead, is written for us to follow in good faith. Were all human beings to follow in faith there would be no friction on the planet. That is yet another hard to fathom truth.

The bible is truth as applies to the human condition because the words of the bible come from God. He tells it like it is with knowledge that only He possesses. This is the hidden reason that so many refute the bible as a pack of mythological stories. Do we fully understand how the bible is written? No, not fully. Not without a lifetime of reading and considering and, even then, we are not complete as we need to be to understand all that God wants us to understand. In a way, the bible is written for individuals to understand as it points out our weaknesses and our strengths but these according to what God knows. Ths is why so many churches disagree on certain parables and writings of the bible. However, the bible is what all churches are founded upon. The principles of the bible are universal. The details are always subject to interpretation. In other words, there is a hairs breadth of wiggle room in how we understand what God tells us and this is due to our imperfection.

In a way, these are my thoughts but only as I understand what others consider when attempting to follow the bible. What comes to bear for all of us is that we who read the bible see this world much differently than those who do not read the bible. In our own limited fashion we see the need for that book to be read by all. We also understand that that will never be and from that knowledge comes patience, love, and even a certain amount of pity. A word which says more about love thy neighbor as thyself than is given credit.

“Love thy neighbor as thyself.” Think on that a while.
